Metal - Best of 2004

Just like last year and the year before that I’m gonna revisit the metal scene. And as usual, the mark of excellence is Metal-Rules.com and their Top 35 Heavy Metal Albums of 2004.

#1. Exodus - Tempo Of The Damned
#2. Nightwish - ONCE [CHECK!]
#3. Iced Earth - The Glorious Burden [CHECK!]
#4. Jag Panzer - Casting the [...]

eXeem Open Beta

Yes indeed, eXeem has finally entered open beta. It should be very interesting to see how it goes. As it stands searches can be a little slow and not much is shared. But that is bound to change. The addition of the Cydoor advert system has upset quite a few people though. Not too good [...]

MacGyver DVD Season 1

Just a reminder that the DVD release date for the first season of MacGyver is just days away (Jan 25). See this rather old note from TVShowsOnDVD for more info. It has also been made available on the net, as is evident from NFOrce. Three more seasons will follow in 2005 and the remaining three [...]

Scare tactics

Every day you get a little better insight into the workings of society. You see who your friends are and who have fallen from grace to be spat upon, broken and cast out. I have recently observed how the Swedish media has been eagerly jumping in bed with the media industry and the Justice Department. [...]

HP Region Coded Printer Cartridges

Slashdot tells us that HP will Region-code Printer Cartridges.
“Looks like the printer cartridge manufacturers will be borrowing techniques from Hollywood. HP introduced region coding for some of the newest printers sold in Europe. HP’s US location and US dollar sliding lead to the situation, where cartridge prices in Europe are significantly higher than those in [...]

P2P US Legal Terror

The two men who operated a network of DC++ hubs were found guilty of copyright infringement and now face up to a ridiculous five years in jail and and an equally ridiculous fine of up to $250.000. The Department of Justice is boasting about it as usual. Enjoy it while you can, when the time [...]

Google nofollow

Google announced that it would start spidering for the rel=”nofollow” attribute.
The idea is that users start flagging hyperlinks on comment pages (automatically obviously) with a rel=”nofollow” link attribute in order to alert search spiders that a particular link shouldn’t be factored into Pagerank calculations.
I.e. <a href=”http://www.example.com/” rel=”nofollow”>test</a>
I’m using that nifty SEO Pagerank plugin which already [...]

Open-Source Biology

The revolution has begun (Wired).
The battle lies between biotech companies like multinational Monsanto, who can grant or deny the legal use of biological information, and independent organizations like The Biological Innovation for Open Society, or BIOS, and Science Commons. The indies want to give scientists free access to the latest methods in biotechnology through the [...]

Software Patents (more)

IBM frees 500 software patents, though it should be noted that they supposedly hold more than 40.000 patents all in all. The official statement adds that they are devoted to ushering in a ‘new era in how IBM will manage intellectual property’. But it is important news since IBM is the biggest US patent holder [...]

Bloggers’ Bill of Rights

The Bloggers’ Rights Blog has a list of ‘Blogophobic companies‘ that have either fired, threatened, disciplined, fined or not hired people because of their blogs. As well as a list of signatures from bloggers who support the movement and dare to stand up to this outrageous treatment. I wonder if this is more of an [...]
