It’s good to see that people are protesting. And doing what they can as good citizens to fight oppression where they find it. It should be noted that Swedish Antipiracy has now been reported to and had complaints filed against them with just about every Swedish authority. If they so much as jaywalk or fail to recycle their garbage from now on, we are going to use it to get to them. It’s not the development one could have wished for as it breeds hatred and distrust but we are simply not going to sit here and be abused by the industry.
Copyriot and Nicklas Lundblad raise the issue of whether we can afford to let the industry hunt innocent people to stay in control of a crumbling empire that is more and more looking like a thing of the past. Should Swedish taxpayers have to support the industry by wasting at least a million or more per case? Benefit for society per case equals zero. Or less than zero actually since there will be a couple of violent and real crimes not solved because of lack of time, manpower and funds.
I came to think of how Dave over at Geek News Central was gloating over the first US state conviction of Music and Movie downloading. He called Parvin Dhaliwal “a parasite on the back of digital media development and distribution.” It’s hard to tell when people are trying to be satirical but at least I think the man was sincere even if it provoked a humorous response for me.
In the same spirit, the Antipiracy organizations and the industry cartels like RIAA, MPAA, IFPI and so on are the true parasites here. Using common resources from the pool to fill their own pockets and further their goals. And when things don’t go their way they whine and use big words like “stifling” and “killing”. And claim that without them, society would crumble more or less. Well, one day we might just take it to the test. My bet is nothing will happen. The entertainment industry is about as useful as wart on my arse.
