US entertainment giant Warner Brothers plans to fight intellectual property right (IPR) infringements in China by selling DVDs of its movies at bargain prices, state media reported Friday.Original DVDs costing less than three dollars will be available throughout China by the end of September, the China Daily reported just a week before US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice is due here with piracy high on the agenda.

Good luck with that. But three dollars is about what a DVD is really worth. On the US or Swedish market that is. To think I once used to buy DVDs at prices of over $15. But that was long before I got broadband, educated myself, became aware of ideology and power and before advanced mpeg4 compression was available and so on. There are many factors as to why times have changed.
Hmm, I see great opportunity for private imports. I wonder if CD-WOW can get their hands on these discs. They do sell a lot of R3 discs. And they are based in Singapore or HK or whatever. I’ll keep my eyes on a few SE Asian DVD outlets just in case.
Oh and btw, I hope the Chinese will stand up to Condoleezza and the US. Not that I think the US will be making much demands, even if the media surely will make it seem that way. America as well as the Chinese and I, know how things work. If SE Asia were to stop playing ball, the US economy could crumble. So as much as US interests would like to make even more money on their IPs, things are no quite as easy as just making demands.
