Better late than never …

A French appeal court has ruled in favour of a John Doe who downloaded around 500 movies. The judge ruled that these movies were private copies and that these downloaded films were not redestributed and that tax had been paid on the blank media that they were backed up on.

France seems to have a very fair and just system when it comes to digital media rights and it seems they have shown that the greedy MPAA and RIAA cant always do what they want. Thankfully at least 1 country in the world has some sense, hopefully others will follow this good example.

This sets the huge precedent that P2P is legal over there. For the details, apparently no distinction was made on the method used to download the movies (upload issues) and the famous EUCD directive was even used by the defending lawyer .
