According to The Local it doesn’t pay. Only 2% of listeners tune in to P2 apparently. And so some media consultant has suggested that the channel either be transformed into a sports or “pop” music outlet. Abomination!
A reader commented satirically that we should also bulldoze old boring buildings to make room for more “fun” architecture. Because history is “dull.”
I have to contest this. P2 is part of the public service network. It’s not meant to generate revenue but rather it’s perfect if it runs at a loss. It’s a guarantee of independence from market powers and capitalist media. Part of the public service charter is to educate the public. A change of format instead of content would be better. And to have in mind that people just don’t listen to radio anymore.
