The BSA is bullshitting us again in their report for 2004.

Something that caught my eye, other than Sweden’s dismally “good” placement near the top of the list, was the comment made over Venezuela in the report:

In Venezuela, piracy rose seven percentage points over the previous year to 79 percent. While PC shipments doubled in 2004, software revenues grew by less than 10 percentage points.

One has to admire the United States determination when it comes to Hugo Chavez. The networking required to pull off such a unison slander and propaganda effort against Venezuela must be enormous. Goes to prove how intertwined US state interests are with the corporate agenda.
Of course (and granted that the statistics are for real) this is what you get when you opt for socialist reform and populism. Go Venezuela! The Swedish socialist party ought to invite Chavez as a political consultant, especially on how to deal with corporations and globalization, a topic where they have strayed far from their roots or just don’t understand.

They also go on to bitch about India, a booming technology market that is about to expand beyond what anyone else is capable of. They seem to be doing alright for themselves …
Life sure is a bitch for the people who fund the BSA. On the one hand they want to exploit low wage countries like India, and on the other hand they can’t accept that India doesn’t do more for intellectual property. That sure sucks for the corporate world. I wonder what they would have done in the good old days? Invade and enslave them most likely. But that may still happen.
