British towns will get a taste of martial law this summer, courtesy of the Home Secretary and a desperate Tony Blair.
Ministers have ordered the Army on to the streets to join an all-out summer campaign against anti-social drunken and violent behaviour by yobs.Military police and ordinary uniformed soldiers will help keep youths under control in up to 20 towns and cities near military barracks.
The strategy comes as police forces in more than 230 towns and cities begin a clampdown on disorderly behaviour by alcohol-fuelled youngsters, in response to a Home Office survey showing a disturbing rise in youth crime.
In some areas curfews will be imposed, allowing police to clear groups of youths from the street after 9pm. “Curfew zones” will be introduced, from which police may ban individuals for up to 24 hours using an Anti-Social Behaviour Order (Asbo). Anyone who breaches such an order faces a fine of up to £2,500 and a jail sentence.

A rotten idea if there ever was one. “Curbing anti-social behaviour and promote a culture of ‘respect’” … yeah right. Anti-Social Behaviour Order (Asbo), seriously?
Letting MPs and unformed soldiers patrol the streets sound like a really swell idea, if you’re looking to condition the populace to the idea of martial law and the constant state of war. It dulls people down and makes them accustomed to troops on the streets and less whiny when their rights are being stripped. Furthermore it normalizes the military in that it might be easier to recruit and sell the idea of armed service.
Also, it works brilliantly in that it gives the real “yobs”, the policticians in London, more authority and legitimacy. Just like the very same hung on to the coattails of the “the war on terror.” And continue to rout out suspected “terrorists” for rendition to torture or illegal incarceration. It’s a slippery slope.
