Dungeon Siege 2 is getting modest reviews so far. Many seem annoyed with the lack of depth or actual roleplaying as it were.
So its an action RPG. And at this it truly excells. But that also means that it’s not a game one is likely to return to once the single-player storyline has been expended. Multiplayer seems to be somewhat limited too. And some of the features in the game requires that you play through the campaign on all three difficulty levels. But still I kind of like it. You can never get too much of fantasy and hacking away at stuff.
GamePro - These games throw time-consuming RPG traditions like plot and character development right out the window, favoring cheap thrills and treasure hunting. In any Diablo derivative, the gameplay invariably boils down to two fundamental concepts: killing and capitalism. The goal is to create the ultimate monster slayer, a character powerful enough to eviscerate armies of high-level monsters in a nanosecond.
Gamespot - Dungeon Siege II is a solid game with plenty to keep you busy for hours. The biggest problem is that the game is just too easy, and even though there are increased difficulty settings, you have to put in a good 40 hours just to unlock the veteran setting, and another 40 hours to reach elite. Unfortunately, the story and gameplay really aren’t deep enough to warrant that many trips through the game. But, there haven’t been a lot of good dungeon crawlers lately, and Dungeon Siege II does a respectable job of filling that void.
