Tom’s Hardware has a good column about the increasingly heated conflict between the industry and the “pirates” who love to crack, package and distribute. It is clear that at least the headlines have now progressed to include the term “war on x.” The site is a little slanted towards the industry of course, calling Pirates rationale for doing what they’re doing “paper-thin excuses.” They do however lament the rise of techniques such as StarForce, which even for a seasoned game reviewer like the article author, seems to be a bungle. And here is the real gem of course:
The real joke is the fact that the cracked versions of the games do not come with the disruptive copy protection – meaning that the pirates do not suffer the ill effects of the driver that are inflicted upon legitimate paying customers.
