Cult Watch October

Scientology

  • Mock scientology website threatened - www.scienTOMogy.info hit a bit of snag last week when the Church of Scientology threatened court action against the New Zealand-based Web site. Once again proving that legal action is second nature to the so called religion.
  • Hurricane advantage - The COS is swarming US hurricane struck areas adding insult to injury. Again, true to form. But unlike elsewhere in the world, they aren’t given the boot they deserve. In fact, faith based aid is deeply connected to the US system. As is often the case with conservative countries.
  • Tom Cruise honoured with standing ovation - Apparently that is what you get for £3.6 million these days, plus a Diamond Meritofakery award. Cruise remains the celeb trophy and as for Holmes, she’s now the trophy of the trophy. Pawnish. And unlike another celeb cult member claimed, it is a big deal, because of his proselytizing and the way people react to celebrities. Which Madonna also noted by saying that “The world’s in the cult of celebrity. That’s the irony of it.” Talk about getting it and still not getting it.
  • The Truth about Scientology - Got handed a DMCA Complaint. Those COS people sure do know how to abuse the law.
  • Scientology Sex Assault Nightmare - Also documented here.
  • Scientology critic assaulted, drugged, home invaded (Xenu) - Is Paul Horner a victim of freak accident and unlikely coincidences or is the COS gearing up the attacks on critics?

  • New Tribes Movement out of Venezuela - and Mormons too. Good riddance. Hope Chavez survives the storm. US newspapers are adding this to the list of Chavez’s misdemeanors of course, and have found the only token group of indigenous people who do not want NTM expelled. How is that for cherry-picking? Many seem to think that this is anti-americanism when it is really about defending the rights of indigenous peoples. Shows how much they know, or indeed care about transculturation. Also on Silent Nation.

The major religions are of course positioned just like last month. Not much to add there. Except that the modus operandi of religion and the absurdity remains perhaps best studied through the movement of new faiths and their invariable transgressions. By eating away at smaller cults, one hopes to get to the grand delusions eventually.
