Silkroad Online MMORPG. Unfortunately I and a million others it seems found the game via Digg and so the servers are now basically clogged. As such I have been unable to evaluate the actual gameplay. The price (FREE) and the screenshots [ 1 | 2 | 3 ] have to do the talking for now. Unfortunately there are no reviews of the game either (outside of Korea).
I’m not a MMORPG buff exactly (I can never get into the social role-playing part) but I can recognize when something is free and spectacularly detailed. It is also clear from the Silkroad web site that for the developers this goes far beyond creating just a game, it is indeed a dream that takes form.

Client download is 500MB (and those servers are clogged as well currently …).

Well, they could have opted for BitTorrent or something. Since they have managed to perfect almost everything else I’m surprised that they use such an antiquated delivery system. Then again, starting just ONE server and opening sign-ups for everyone is a bit nonsensical too, knowing how bitchy most gamers are and how important first impressions can be. I guess they didn’t see the Digg effect coming.
If anyone has actually played the game and had time to form an opinion, please enlighten us.

I have played the game for a few months now. They have added two
servers the venice and the greece to the 6 that were there before I have had no prob on the greece server but I got on when it just rolled out. As far as the others I tried to play on Venice server but gave up, the main one I play on is the Aege server. It laggs at about 7am mtn time till 2pm I work nights so I dunno about then

They NEED more servers. if i ever go into the market it takes about 12 mins to get to the othevr side of thee castle bcos of the lagging
I don’t know what you guys are talking about. I have hikari flets fibre internet here in Japan and I downloaded the client from the main english site at about 8 MB/s uing flashget, installed it in ten minutes, registered in another 3 and was done in a total of under twenty minutes. My game hardly lags even when the servers are crowded. My main chars name is Merakis, and I play on the Venice server. Lvl 14 in about a day and a half! w00t! w00t!
Ive played the game alot, the bad part is the servers are always full during the day and its hard to get logged in but once you do there is almost no lag at all for me, i believe there are 3 or 4 servers but they are almost ALWAYS full. On the upside the graphics are great and the games really fun and its FREE! so quit complaining and lets all play!
The download part is pretty good.
The playing part is harder,they have now about 10 servers…all of them FULL at ANY time!Played for about a week now,you just have to keep trying to enter a server,bad part is that if you can’t access a server,the game quits and you have to start it again.
The game is pretty cool…never been lagged,although i dont have a huge connection (1 mbs max)…worth the download & play.Too bad for too few servers….
I play on the Olympus server and it lags all the time. Good game though, and easy to level up..
i believe they should for now stop people from signing up and make new servers so they spread the load i tried to connect today and cudnt all the seervers were crowded!!!

I vould like to say that this game is nice, but it takes abaut ~30 tries to connect becaouse serwers are allways crowded †_†! Still its a nice game but there must be more servers or some restrictions ^_^

[b][i] I have been playing thz Silk for some time now im level 29 pure INT and the game is absolutly great the only game that can compete is WoW but you have to pay for WoW. So SR is the best free game.

i play it, but it takes fucking ages to sign on, so crowded, they need to sort it out before i smack them in the head

grrrr i cant seem 2 get in….
its takes ages 2 get in wen i installed it yesterday (like 9 pm) all the servers were "populated" so i got in ez but now they r all "crowded"
and i cant get in at all
it noon rite now so i hope that the servers will b emptier towards 3 pm cuz i cant play at 9 pm
ive seen the screen shots and the loader itself is sweet so other than the server cluster its the best game there is:grin:
