Star Wars Battlefront II

Highly rated for being a franchise game.

Gamerankings (80%) Star Wars Battlefront II improves upon the original game’s single-player experience with open-ended, mission-based objectives inspired from all six Star Wars films.

The compelling storyline spans more than 12 new locations, many from Episode III, including volcanic Mustafar and the space battle above Coruscant. All-new classic movie moments complete the Star Wars Battlefront II experience, as you battle within the interior of the Death Star and visit Princess Leia’s blockade runner, the Tantive IV, as seen at the beginning of Episode IV A New Hope. In addition, at certain key moments within the battles, you can feel the Force as a Jedi.

I really enjoyed SWBF1 so obviously I jumped on this one. Great game, but it seems that the new improvements barely make up for the new declines. For one, the many of the good maps from the first game are nowhere to be seen and have been replaced with maps that are less than entertaining (Felucia …). Also I found the gameplay to be frustrating in many cases and abrupt in others. Also, one does lose a Hero character pretty quickly in some instances, but that is I guess also due to lack of training and bad tactics. Overall the game feels faster, tighter and more action packed than its predecessor. Which from my point of view is a bad thing. Like Gamespy pointed out, the game is a bit like a Wookiee suit - very hairy. Like they say, much of the problems are probably due to the A.I., which is kind of hard to escape in a game like this. The A.I. combined with some not so good game modes (Space, Hunt and “XL” for instance) creates a frustrating experience. As for the graphics and all that I’m not fussy. They’re OK, even if the weird lighting and “gloss” effects do throw you back at first.

And one more thing. Would someone please shoot whoever put the Securom protection on this game. And then light a fire under he whoever supposedly makes NO-CD/DVD patches.
