Proselytizing Swede Deported

Good riddance! But I reckon most people will take this the wrong way.

SR International - It’s been reported that two women students, one a Swede, the other South Korean, have been deported from Egypt for trying to convert Moslems to Christianity.

According to press reports, the trouble began when the Swede borrowed the Bible from her Korean roommate and took it to a meeting with an Egyptian Moslem in Cairo.

There is no specific law in Egypt against proselytizing, but emergency laws since the 1981 assassination of President Anwar Sadat allow authorities to detain and deport people suspected of being missionaries as a threat to national security.

I can’t stand proselytizing and there are countries where it is in fact banned, even if not directed at indigenous peoples. As for proselytizing aimed at indigenous peoples it is flat out unacceptable and should be searched out and met with the gravest of punishments. But that is an altogether different story.

As I am more than familiar with Christian fundamentalists, I can understand why people would get annoyed. Christians may not usually blow you up (and neither do muslims) but sometimes you wish they would because they are more than a little arrogant and tend to pester people without end about salvation and subtle conversion propaganda. If I may venture a guess this probably has something to do with a protestant denomination, like the Pentecostalists. I have never in my life met people who are so nice and yet so deceitfully intolerant and downright dangerous. Just ask yourself, when was the last time you brought a bible to a meeting with someone? But if you are one of them or have never gazed upon their black soul as I have, then I can see how this could be construed as religious intolerance by the Muslims in question.

Ironically, this is the antithesis of what the “clash of civilizations”-people usually claim. You know, those that for political, religious or racist reasons claim that Muslim refugees in Europe are some sort of advance invading force busy converting and preparing the continent for Muslim invasion. Even though the reality is that a refugee by rules of simple logic is unlikely to resurrect something that they have often chosen to leave behind and that they live as second class citizens generally in Europe. If they are even citizens and not “guest workers” like in Germany.
It is also interesting because I first picked up this news tidbit in that exact and bizarre “clash” context. Namely used to show how Muslims in “Africa” (sounds scary doesn’t it?) deports some wholesome Swedish student. Followed of course by noting that Muslims in Sweden “live like kings.” If this article has any relevance at all, it would be to show how WE go to THEM with OUR intolerance. Flaunting “our” culture and really trying to rub it in. Sorry Egypt!
