Getting petty over Cuba

The US decided it would be a good idea to enforce its embargo on Cuba and make an example of a baseball tournament. Now that is petty.

ESPN - The U.S. government is shutting Cuba out of the inaugural World Baseball Classic, citing the standing embargo against the communist island nation.

The Treasury Department told Major League Baseball of its decision Wednesday, said Pat Courtney, a spokesman for the commissioner’s office. The department’s Office of Foreign Assets Control confirmed the announcement.

All in all, that embargo has done more for Fidel Castro than any revolution. Why does the US insist on being so constipated and not realize that not only their own cultural influence but also change on Cuba (if that is what you really want, and you’d think that would be the US’s plan) in terms of re-evalutation of the Cuban nation, culture and traditions, which can only happen by means of contact with others, are blocked as well by embargoes?
