Just to sum it up. The US wants to track you using an embedded GPS receiver which sends its position and route to a DMV registry at steady intervals. No privacy whatsoever guaranteed. Malfunction may render your car useless.
Sweden wants all new cars to be fitted with alcolocks (”breathalyzers”). The technology is unreliable. Malfunction may render your car useless. Only detects alcohol (and not drugs). Can be disabled for emergencies (but needs to be reset at a garage at an expense).
And Britain wants to record vehicle movement using video cameras that read license plates automatically. No privacy whatsoever guaranteed.
Not to mention the groundbreaking congestion charge trial in Stockholm. While a good idea in principle, reading plates and installing transponders are clear violations of privacy and can be abused. Especially in these treacherous times. One would hope that the final product is imbued with the highest level of legal protection to avoid people getting ideas.
