In a way that is as clumsy and overt as it is pointless. But again, the American (and other) elites aren’t as concerned with actual security as they are with terrorizing their own people. It doesn’t matter if it doesn’t make sense to
MSNBC - In the 50 years that Grant Goodman has known and corresponded with a colleague in the Philippines he never had any reason to suspect that their friendship was anything but spectacularly ordinary. But now he believes that the relationship has somehow sparked the interest of the Department of Homeland Security and led the agency to place him under surveillance.
Last month Goodman, an 81-year-old retired University of Kansas history professor, received a letter from his friend in the Philippines that had been opened and resealed with a strip of dark green tape bearing the words “by Border Protection” and carrying the official Homeland Security seal.
The “good” news? This is something that has been done for decades. Meanwhile America only masqueraded as a leader in liberty and integrity. Lesson from the DHS overlords: If you’re American, don’t get pen pals overseas. Join the army instead, see the world through the barrel of a gun.
Neocon Police State Spreads Disinfo and Paranoia
He sure takes the words right out of one’s mouth. Well written as always. While it seems like an honest attempt by MSNBC to report this and a real turkey by the US government, looks can be deceiving.

You really do not have a clue. US Customs which folded into (1) Customs and Border Protection and (2)Immigration and Customs Enforcement within the Department of Homeland Security is tasked with monitoring mail from overseas…countries with high Islamic populations are of particular interest. Canada Customs does it, Italian Customs does it, Australian Customs does it, Danish Customs does it, Norwegian Customs does it, British Customs does it…on and on and on. I should know…I worked with these agencies. Why don’t you stick with what you know? And it definitely is not law enforcement. Have you gotten a job yet?
Yeah I got that part. What is this, some sort of echo? Why state the obvious instead of getting to the point which is .. what .. that "countries with high Islamic populations are of particular interest"?
The point is that it smacks of bigotry, simplifications, overtness, nonchalance and racism. It will hurt everyone involved and benefit no one. Oh and I am sticking to what I know. Deal with it. But I guess you people are bred to believe in your more or less divine right and understanding of the world.
Your cheap rhetoric, personal abuse, apparent frustration with people who state a contrary opinion and stated, though unreferenced, "facts" about the system aren’t worth a rotten potato.
If you think that this measure in question is worth diddly-squat in terms of actual security they can’t have very high standards with "these agencies" where you claim to have worked. And of course when I say "security" I’m not counting blowback and legitimate retaliation against the US (and other states), but rather unprovoked violence (of which there is very little).
Well well well, we can’t all work as apologists, racketeers and brutes for empire — taking advantage of the weak, the poor and the defenceless, can we? Some of us have a conscience. Plus of course, some also work to expand their minds, whilst others would rather support intellectual seclusion and mental constipation, while being force fed the party line.
