Terry Gilliam has little sympathy for Hollywood studios, which he claims have consistently hampered his creative efforts, and he thus somewhat spitefully encourages copyright infringement. As long as you do it in style.
“It’s hard for me to worry about the studios losing money. I’m not very sympathetic to their money problems, because they certainly haven’t been sympathetic to mine.“When you look at one of their accounting sheets you realise you’re never going to see a penny, so if someone wants to rip them off that’s fine with me.
“If you’re going to pirate, though, make sure the quality’s good. Have some respect for what you’re pirating!”
My thoughts exactly. It’s about respect and enjoying a movie, as well as experiencing the media the way it was intended. If you’re like Gilliam, you probably think that Pan and Scan or a low bitrate is worse than infringement.
It is puzzling though that most people, even those behind the creative work only seem to care about the bottom line, or at any rate are reluctant to speak their mind for fear of making enemies of those that DO live for the bottom line. Money sure corrupts.
