Captain Hook Awards for Biopiracy 2006

The Coalition Against Biopiracy has released its Captain Hook Awards for Biopiracy 2006. For the record, “biopiracy”

refers to the monopolization (usually through intellectual property) of genetic resources and traditional knowledge or culture taken from peoples or farming communities that developed and nurtured those resources.

The awards include but are not limited to:

Most Shameful Act of Biopiracy: […]

‘Holocaust’ Experiment Upsets Parents

The Holocaust Industry has worked American educators to such a frenzy that they now abuse kids in order to make their point. It would seem to me that the untold purpose of this is to intimidate and encourage obedience to authority. And that would also be the value of this in America today where many […]

French Students and Workers are Right

Common Dreams: Would Europeans really benefit from an American-style economy or has the discourse been hijacked by neoclassical liberals on both sides of the Atlantic? And for that matter, is the American economy doing all that well or is that just a smoke screen as well?

More than a million people in France have taken to […]

Chinese zombie ships of West Africa

The Greenpeace Weblog has a photo and text exposé of these so called zombie ships and the seemingly futile quest for prosperity. A disturbing account that offers important lessons for ignorant consumers who know little about the fish they pick up on their “painstaking” trips to the local supermarket.

We’re in the big African Queen inflatable, […]

Lewd decals

A new politically motivated crackdown to add to the books. Diligent police state officers in Georgia, U.S. are now slapping cars boasting “I’m tired of all the BUSHIT” decals with a $100 “lewd decals” fine.

Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion

Everyone is talking about Oblivion it seems. Though of course, nothing can quite arouse gamers like a RPG regardless of its merits. Still, having a meta score of 95% over at Game Rankings does imply that the game is worth looking into. So I did. Aside from a small scene-related () glitch the game installed […]

Not so pleasant Vistas

I’ve expressed scepticism with Microsoft’s upcoming OS on a number of occasions. But complaining never gets old does it.
While I for one couldn’t be happier if the damned thing never was released, the exclusive content being developed for Vista does present a problem. With the delay that was announced the other day we can of […]

US backs Apple stand on French law

Engadget notes that the U.S. government has expressed support for Apple. Because obviously, anything else would be respecting consumer rights.
Personally I think this is an important step that France is taking. Digital music should play everywhere, no matter where you bought it and what sort of player you have. We don’t want a balkanized market, […]

First External PC Power Supply?

Finally, an external PSU for the PC. About time. So what if someone over at Digg noted that Dell has been shipping external PSUs with some fringe systems, for some time. That hardly counts.
One extra box on the floor, but on the other hand you’ll lose a fan and lower the case temperature. The XG […]

Proto-conservative whiners?

Or Kid Politics in other words. Can rough ideological inclinations be observed at an early age and are “conservatives” really nothing but whiny children looking for simple answers in a complex world? Or is it just this study looking for simple answers?
Personally I think the basic thrust of the argument is compelling but it is […]
