Obviously the deal is outrageous. But what will ICANN do about it? Leave it as it is and risk appearing corrupt and unfit to lord over root servers and domains? It seems unlikely that they can back out of the deal now. So, will the Department of Commerce veto the deal? Because, the U.S. government doesn’t control ICANN … right? Right? Either way, it will confirm that the ICANN model is rotten to the core and that the U.N. was right to demand the internationalization of operations.
