New Aspartame Woes

New facts have come to light regarding the effects of the artificial sweetener Aspartame (NutraSweet, E951). With literally thousands of studies performed and the substance being in production for decades you’d think the verdict would already be in. But apparently new research has indicated detrimental effects that must be taken seriously. Europe’s largest manufacturer of Aspartame, Holland Sweetener, has decided with uncanny timing to quit production of the substance. If this keeps snowballing we could be looking at the biggest intentional case of food poisoning ever.

Aspartame trivia: Aspartame was developed by accident as it were at G. D. Searle in 1965. Interestingly, the U.S. FDA never wanted to legalize the use of Aspartame (NutraSweet) but fortunately for G. D. Searle they had a CEO, President, and later Chairman by the name of Donald Rumsfeld. The day Reagan took office, the previous FDA commissioner’s authority was suspended and Aspartame was miraculously rubberstamped. Since then, all serious efforts to probe the effects of Aspartame have been obstructed. Since 1985 G.D. Searle is owned by Monsanto and known as the NutraSweet Company.
