HIV-infected are “treated like lepers” and denied visas under American law. While many countries have similar restrictions in theory, the U.S. apparently applies the rules more stringently and so one must wonder if it has anything to do with public safety or if it is more a question of lingering notions of “gay cancer” and intravenous drug use. Which is still the way many in the U.S. think about HIV / AIDS due to the remarkably slanted initial review and presentation of cases.
