As Americans continue to moan about “outrageous” gas prices, what does the government do, aside from the toothless promise to look into the matter (and examine its cronies)? They temporarily suspend environmental rules for gasoline so that big oil can hopefully make big bucks while prices are slashed a few cents for show. Slick move, especially after having been at the Renewable Fuels Association and attended Earth Day, but the irony is apparently far too advanced for dull minds. Some responsible leadership, and should I perhaps say, nice going for the world’s biggest polluter and user (see also: The Oil We Eat) when everyone else is onboard Kyoto and even China made the environment a central priority in its 11th five-year plan.
However, the main question regarding the U.S. and oil remains: When are petrodollars coming home to roost? Sooner rather than later hopefully.
