The European Food Safety Authority says sweetener ‘is not a cancer risk.’ Can’t have health concerns hurt the bottom line now can you. Needless to say, the EFSA like most of the EU administrative machinery has close ties to the corporate world. The Ramazzini Foundation stands by its original study though. Not that it is the first or only study to link aspartame to tumours. But considering the shady history of aspartame it’s not wonder few dare to question the official story.
I believe it was Erik Millstone of the Science Policy Research Unit at the University of Sussex who noted how bizarre it is that the issue of public safety always comes last these days. You’ll need a mountain of evidence to take a product off the market, when it ought to be that public safety should outweigh economic concerns every time. Compare these ridiculous demands to the way aspartame was fasttracked and rubberstamped in the first place.
