Surprised? And they just plain ignore local laws and guidelines as the Guardian reports. One could argue this is the same basic policy that Apple has always adhered to since the main gripe with their products has always been build quality first and foremost. So Apple basically postulates that their ridiculously expensive and featureless iPods will only last a year. And the extra warranty they offer is just plain expensive as well, not to mention the battery replacement. To be fair, Apple is not alone in making short-lived small electronics with substandard batteries, but in their price range you’d surely expect something else altogether.
Steve Jobs of course put it as deceitfully as he could in a recent MSNBC interview
You know, you keep on innovating, you keep on making better stuff. And if you always want the latest and greatest, then you have to buy a new iPod at least once a year.
So, I take it the build quality is actually going down then? And you’re covering it up with more design perks. It pretty much sums up why Apple is such a danger to industry and consumer alike. It’s the worst thing that happened to the public since Compaq, cigarettes, guerilla marketing, listerine or diamonds.
