No hand-luggage, no liquids

Another day, another alleged terror plot. Someone sure is busy striking fear into people, but it isn’t Islamic radicals. Rather it’s the people who actually stand to gain something from increased control. Now, this latest development in aviation regulations is just mindboggling. Boing Boing notes …

[The British government has] prohibiting all hand-luggage on planes, except for a transparent shopping bag carrying a few permitted items: a couple tampons, baby food (if another passenger is forced to taste it first), glasses without cases (deadly, deadly cases!), contact holders (but no cleaning fluid!), keys (but no electric fobs), and your wallet. You’re not allowed to bring on magazines (deadly, deadly magazines!) or books, no laptops, no iPods, no oversized watches (!), and so forth.

It’s also noteworthy how convenient it is for airlines that they finally got a ban on beverages. So that they can sell their own at rather steep prices.

Passengers were banned from carrying any hand luggage on board flights, including mobile phones and handbags, airlines and airport authorities said.

All liquids were banned on board except for essential medicines. Milk for babies would be allowed on board but must be tasted by the accompanying passenger, UK airport operator BAA said in a statement.

There is also talk of mass murder and grave threats (yes, invoking WW2 and Nazis in a Goodwin sort of way). Well, the sort of actual (as opposed to made-up, theoretical) mass murder that Britain has been a party to these last couple of years in Iraq, not to mention the relaying of bombs to Israel as of late apparently don’t qualify as murder then. Just absentmindedness, as those Brits like to call it, I suppose. Now, consider also the fantastic timing given the decline of Tony Blair and I believe you have a recipe for terror that does not land you in Pakistan.

Sploid adds:

The alleged U.K. terror plot has been investigated for months by British intelligence, and the idea that the airliner attacks were planned for today seems to be nothing more than political fabrication and media hysteria.

Tony Blair and George W. Bush even planned the terror freakout in a series of phone calls that began last Friday and continued through the weekend. Blair and Bush put the finishing touches on their diabolical operation in a phone call early Wednesday, the Associated Press revealed today.

That’s right: While millions of travelers are going through absolute hell today because of the sudden terror “news,” it was last week when the U.S. president and U.K. prime minister began their cold calculations on how to get the maximum political benefit from the months-old investigation.
