Watch TV, go to prison

Having watched Al-Manar, two United-Stators incur 110 years imprisonment

Javed Iqbal and Saleh Elahwal, two American citizens, were arrested by the FBI, the first one in August and the second on November 20th, 2006. The two persons face 110 years in prison during their lawsuits.

Their crime? Both men set up parabolae which allowed them, and the others, to get Hezbollah television channel Al-Manar. Indeed, this channel was classified as ” a terrorist organization ” by the United States, and the fact of watching it or assisting in its broadcasting is considered by the United-Stator justice as a kind of complicity with a terrorist organization.

Reminds you a lot of the measures taken by repressive regimes around the world, trying to prevent people from surfing the net, watching CNN and whatnot. I can guarantee that there will be no public outrage in this case though. Not until the next time Iran or some other usual smear campaign target starts clamping down on satellite dishes anyway. Only then will we see headlines in bold. Oh, the hypocrisy … because after all, what can be said of Al-Manar snuggling up to terrorism, inciting violence could also be said of CNN etc.

    That is ridiculous!

Did they spread the media and news, and propaganda it?
If not, I’d say not even the communist government will give such penalty for merely watching not-supposed-to-watch.
