It would be an understatement to say that the Swedish media has been preoccupied with the STS 116 Space Shuttle mission to the ISS and Christer Fuglesang. What has not been so widely reported however is the political control over NASA and its military dual role. As such, it would be naive to think that Fuglesang would have been selected for the mission had the relationship between Sweden and the US been frostier. Also, listed in the mission cargo manifest are four military concept satellites sponsored by the DoD. Now that puts it in a different light, wouldn’t you say?
