Blizzard Made Me Change My Name

Not breaking news perhaps but Rob Malda, aka CmdrTaco, of Slashdot fame, got his screen name (”CmdrTaco”) revoked in World of Warcraft because it violated Blizzard’s hoity-toity policy.

Slashdot - My Azgalor Paladin is running through Stormwind when I get a message from a GM proclaiming that my account is in violation of Blizzard policy [...]

Jack Thompson strikes again

Problem-reaction-solution from America. You have something you want to prove, some lucid ideology, so you create a problem to which you react and subsequently solve. Because obviously, had it been left to people do decide on their own, they wouldn’t do diddly-squat, and you can’t have that. So evidence is conjured in the most media-effective [...]

WOW Spyware?

Via Warp2Search. Like someone said on the forum, trust is good, reverse engineering is better. Here is a closer look at the “warden,” Blizzards equivalent to Punkbuster.

Rootkit - I recently performed a rather long reversing session on a piece of software written by Blizzard Entertainment, yes - the ones who made Warcraft, and World of [...]

Age of Empires III

It’s out. No reviews so far though. But it’s AOE so it can’t be a total loss. The level of detail seems excruciating with destructible environments and a fully dynamic 3D world to explore. Seems a little more CIV-like and less arcadish than its predecessors.

Age of Empires III will offer gamers the next level of [...]

Black and White 2

The game is out but the preliminary reviews aren’t looking good.

From the creative mind of god game developer Peter Molyneux comes Black & White 2, the sequel to the critically acclaimed hit Black & White. In this strategy game, you reprise your role as a powerful deity in search of a following and return to [...]

Marvel Games

A lot of surprisingly good stuff coming from the comic book franchise these days.

PLAY BOTH SIDES as Ultimate Spider-Man allows players to take on the role of super hero Spider-Man AND super villain Venom in an original storyline that picks up right where the comic book left off! Ultimate Spider-Man is penned and illustrated by [...]

The War on Game Pirates

Tom’s Hardware has a good column about the increasingly heated conflict between the industry and the “pirates” who love to crack, package and distribute. It is clear that at least the headlines have now progressed to include the term “war on x.” The site is a little slanted towards the industry of course, calling Pirates [...]

Virtual plague spreading … in World of Warcraft

Less coverage of the very real plague spreading in the non-virtual world.

Arstechnica - Players of Blizzard’s incredibly popular World of Warcraft are reporting the outbreak of a virtual plague that is spreading across major cities in the virtual land of Azeroth, infecting player characters at an alarming rate.

Starship Troopers Demo

The demo is out as some sort of Gamespot exclusive I guess. Really hate those guys. Anyway, I’m sure it’s on p2p also. Official site. Now the question is if it is any good. And fun beyond the obvious single-player movie-inspired mission around which the game seems to be centered.

Dungeon Siege II

Dungeon Siege 2 is getting modest reviews so far. Many seem annoyed with the lack of depth or actual roleplaying as it were.
So its an action RPG. And at this it truly excells. But that also means that it’s not a game one is likely to return to once the single-player storyline has been expended. [...]
