Loreena McKennitt Wins Privacy Lawsuit

Old news by now, nevertheless interesting. First and foremost because singer/wongwriter Loreena McKennitt is an artist that I admire very much and second because this case introduces a very delicate problem of free speech vs. personal privacy. At least taken at face value. Reading the court ruling, it is clear that Niema Ash went a […]

Nightwish Breakup

“End Of An Era.” This certainly came out of the blue. Not that I’ve been following them that closely but still. You’d think it would be revealed in a less abrupt manner. Hard to know what to make of this. Tarja apparently got a letter handed to her, a letter that was later released to […]

Blackmore’s Night announces new album

Blackmore’s Night announces new album.

BLACKMORE’S NIGHT, the band featuring former DEEP PURPLE/RAINBOW guitarist Ritchie Blackmore and his fiancée Candice Night, have set “Village Lanterne” as the title of their new album, tentatively due in early 2006 via SPV Records. A single, “I’ll Be There (Just Call My Name)”, will precede the album on September 5.

Stratovarius - Stratovarius

Finally something interesting on the metal scene. And melodic metal from Stratovarius no less. Stratovarius was reunited earlier this year with the classic line-up. This is their 15th album if I’m not mistaken, a self-titled creation that propels Stratovarius to new heights after a weak couple of years. It sure warms the heart as dusk […]

Iron Maiden pelted with eggs

… during Ozzfest; Sharon Osbourne calls Bruce Dickinson a ‘prick’. Sharon still needs her psychopharmaca.

BLABBERMOUTH.NET has received a number of e-mails regarding last night’s (August 20) Ozzfest concert in Devore (near San Bernardino), California, which reportedly included an on-stage appearance following IRON MAIDEN’s set by Sharon Osbourne during which she called MAIDEN vocalist Bruce […]

Eurovision Song Contest 2005

The annual show that everyone loves to hate is back once more.
In 2005, our beloved contest celebrates its 50th anniversary. Thanks to Ruslana and her Wild dances, Ukraine has the honour to organise the 2005 contest, which will take place in the country’s capital, kyiv.
More countries then ever will participate to the Eurovision Song Contest. […]

Blackmore’s Night

Kind of slow around here so I thought I would make a recommendation in the realm of music. Namely Blackmore’s Night.
Legendary Deep Purple and Rainbow guitarist Ritchie Blackmore (b. April 14, 1945, Weston-super-Mare, England) shifted his musical focus away from hard rock in the late 1990s and started concentrating on his love of Renaissance-era music. […]

Satirical Wit

Looking through the archives, once in a while you come upon a real gem. Like the Jacobite tune “Cam ye o’er frae France” which represents a vibrant and brilliantly vulgar history lecture.
The year is 1715 and James III (the Old Pretender), from exile, stands poised for a foolhardy attempt at reclaiming his birthright. When Queen […]

Bruce Dickinson - Tyranny of Souls

From the PR release:

“Tyranny Of Souls”, Bruce’s new solo venture, sees him return once again to collaborate with guitarist/producer/writer Roy Z. The album’s cover is adorned with a 15th century depiction of hell by Hans Memling and the music continues along this path to explore dark, apocalyptic themes. Delving into science, theology and of course, […]
