Automated Parking Garage

The most remarkable science fiction design so far this year. A solution for a cramped future perhaps.

The Cool Hunter via Gizmodo - The 2 photos above were taken at Volkswagen’s new storage facility in Wolfsburg, Germany. The actual space that the facility occupies is approximately only 20% of a comparable facility with the traditional design […]

Slaves of Firestone

By Michael Zumstein, Oeil Public

Liberia. 2006.
Liberia is the world’s largest rubber producer. However, like many other African countries, Liberia imports old and dangerous used tires manufactured in the U.S, used in Europe and then sold in Africa. In the middle of this chain is the Harbel hevea tree (rubber tree) plantation, owned since 1926 by […]

Chinese zombie ships of West Africa

The Greenpeace Weblog has a photo and text exposé of these so called zombie ships and the seemingly futile quest for prosperity. A disturbing account that offers important lessons for ignorant consumers who know little about the fish they pick up on their “painstaking” trips to the local supermarket.

We’re in the big African Queen inflatable, […]

End of the Line

Foreign Policy has a small photo essay of hulking ships moored in Bangladesh for the 200,000 strong shipbreaking industry to dismantle. Eerie.

Transparent Factory

Another breathtaking photo exposé of architecture and a hyper-modern VW auto plant in Dresden, Germany. Science fiction. Almost.

Architecture of Density

Photographer Michael Wolf has documented the urban dynamics of Hong Kong in a dazzling display of high-rise architecture. 6,700 people per square kilometer is almost beyond human comprehension.

Koch Gallery - Michael Wolf’s work has largely been concerned with the cultural identity of China, where he has lived since 1995, and his large color photographs depict […]

Derelict Soviet buildings

Via Boing Boing …

Abandoned is a photo base of abandoned plants, unfinished buildings, industrial sites. Most of them situated near to Moscow. By the measure of abilities, I hope to fill this photo base by a lot of any other objects and sites which exist somewhere in Russian Federation.

Totalitarian Architecture, part 2

Henrik pointed me to the definitive vacation in North Korea #1 and #2. Weird? A little. Very globetrotterish. Not for the sun and pool worshippers. But like Nick points out, the women in uniform may make it a top holiday destination for cosplay fans. Or indeed those that like Totalitarian Architecture.

Kids with Cameras

We use photography to capture the imaginations of children, to empower them, building confidence, self-esteem and hope. We share their vision and voices with the world through exhibitions, books, websites and film. […]

Totalitarian Architecture

Now there’s a term you don’t hear very often. Big thanks to Henrik for pointing me in the direction of Unrealized Moscow (The Architecture of Moscow from the 1930s to the early 1950s Unrealised projects). Including masterpieces like the People’s Commissariat of Heavy Industry and the Palace of Soviets.
